Church Groups
Many
people comment on the quiet and reflective nature of the place.
Over
the many years that the camp has been operating many different
church groups have made use of our wonderful relaxing facilities.
Camp
Banksia is owned by the State Government of Tasmania and is leased
by the Latrobe Council on behalf of the residents of the local
Municipality. As such it is not associated with any particular
religious group. That said, however, any religious group is very
welcome to attend and will receive a warm welcome.
Youth
groups will appreciate the proximity to the beach which provides
great opportunity for young folk to let off steam.
Families
especially find Camp Banksia a very secure place to enjoy a retreat
weekend with other like minded people. Even though there is a
large duck pond (officially it is the kayak pond, but don't tell
the ducks that) it has recently been enclosed by a very substantial
wire fence. This isn't intended to be a childproof fence but it
does greatly assist adults to comfortably supervise their children.
The
fact that our accommodation is in 6 bed bunk cabins means that
a family can comfortably occupy one of these each. We have 22
cabins like this altogether. They are arranged in clusters of
5 or 6 and 3 of the clusters have undercover access to shared
bathroom facilities. Each and every cabin has a very safe flat
panel wall mounted electric heater.
For
large groups the gymnasium can be set up with a stage that we
provide and services and meetings can be held there leaving the
main hall set up permanently for dining. Two kitchen alcoves in
the main dining hall are available at all hours for your guests
to help themselves to tea, coffee or cold drinks. Two small refrigerators
are also there along with a microwave oven to enable light snacks
to be prepared at any time.
Our
audio visual equipment comprises a large screen TV, DVD player,
overhead projector and screen.
Although
Camp Banksia is right next to a popular beach it is a very private
place. Only pre-booked groups are allowed to stay. No backpackers,
no campervans. If there is more than one group staying at any
time you can be assured that management will have consulted you
to as to the compatibility of the groups. Even Banksia Retreat,
which is a separate family accommodation complex sleeping 14,
is somewhat separate from the main clusters of cabins and dining
room and anyone staying there need have no contact with your group.
This, together with the monitored fire alarm system to all habitable
rooms, means you can be assured that Camp Banksia is a safe secure
place to bring your members.
The
Camp Banksia Community Centre which is on site has its own separate
access off Pitcairn St. This may from time to time be booked by
members of the local community for meetings or activities but
otherwise is available, free of charge to any group staying at
our camp. Indeed, once a group has booked a fully catered camp
with us there is no additional charge for the use of any of our
facilities, be they kayaks, the tennis court or the gymnasium.
